Wakefield Crew Team Breaks Records

The Wakefield Crew team won multiple titles, including four state championships and the Women¡¯s Division 1 ¡°points trophy¡± at the Virginia State Rowing Championships.

  • The Women¡¯s First Varsity 8 boat secured its state championship title for the fourth consecutive year.
  • At the Stotesbury Cup Regatta, the Women¡¯s Junior 8 won gold medals and the Dee Campbell Trophy, while the Men¡¯s Single rower, Tony Madigan, earned a silver medal.
  • At the SRAA National Championships, the Women¡¯s First Varsity 8, Women¡¯s Second Varsity 8, and Men¡¯s Single advanced to grand finals.
  • Tony Madigan won gold at Nationals, becoming the 1st place winner in the nation, with the Women¡¯s First Varsity 8 finishing 5th.
  • The Women¡¯s Second Varsity 8 finished fourth in the nation, led by sophomore Mya Hung (coxswain) and sophomore Annabel Bender (stroke seat), and the Men¡¯s First Varsity 8 finished 12 in the nation, led by senior Liam Merrigan (coxswain and co-team captain), junior Lukas Korcinskis (stroke seat), and senior Nathan Murphy (co-team captain and six seat). The Men¡¯s Freshman 8, led by coxswain Maisy Merrigan and stroke seat August Daschke, finished fourth in their heat, missing the semi-finals by less than four seconds.
